Sciton BBL Treatments

BBL (Broad Band Light) Treatments are a great approach to treating various skin conditions such as:

  • Acne
  • Facial Vessels
  • Hair Removal
  • Hyperpigmentation on the face and body
  • Rosacea

Light treatments work by pulsing intense light through a filter and a crystal applicator, which comes in direct contact with the skin. The light penetrates through the upper layers of the skin and treats the targeted condition.

Before BBL

We recommend discontinuation of Retinol-containing topical products, in addition to products that contain glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and sunless tanning products. Also avoiding direct sun exposure prior to BBL is necessary for best results.

There are several anticipated and expected side effects during a BBL and post BBL.

During BBL

-Mild to moderate discomfort, much like the snap of a rubber band. This sensation is temporary and will subside by the end of the treatment. Also a sensation of deep heat may be felt.

Post BBL

The skin may feel tingly, stingy, or still have a sensation of heat, much like the feeling after being out in the sun. This is temporary and depending on the strength of the treatment, it may subside within a few hours or within a few days. Redness and mild swelling are also very common post BBL.

If treating pigment, the pigment will become darker or “pepper-like” initially and fade or peel within a few days.

If treating actinic keratosis, an order by Dr.Cox is made after a medical visit. Usually an acid is applied to the skin pre treatment and ordered to dwell for a certain amount of time. This acid makes the skin more light sensitive and will target the actinic keratosis better. The side effects post treatment will be more intense and ice packs may be used to alleviate burning and stinging post treatment.

If treating vessels, the vessels will turn a dark red, or purple in appearance initially then lighten over the next few days.

We recommend a gentle cleansing routine and to keep the skin hydrated with moisturizer as often as needed, in addition to sunscreen daily. Other skin can products can be introduced after 1-2 days and make-up can be applied as usual.

Depending on the condition to be treated, the severity and expected outcome, several treatments may be needed. Usually a series of 3 is anticipated and our staff will customize a plan for you.
